How To Obtain Approval - What actions must I take to obtain approval?

If your building work is subject to the Building regulations, the following choices are available to you:

1. A Full Plans application

2. The giving of a Building Notice (except for work where the building is to be put to a use designated under the Fire Precautions Act 1971 for example: a hotel, office, shop, boarding house, or certain type of factory).

For a Full Plans application, you need to ensure plans are prepared well in advance of your commencement date, showing all constructional details. Less detailed plans are required for the Building Notice Procedure. In both of these cases your application or notice needs to be submitted by an experienced person to the Local Authority accompanied the relevant structural calculations, i.e. to demonstrate compliance with safety requirements on the building's structure.
